  Thousands of Nicaraguans marched on the streets of Managua, capital of Nicaragua, to protest against the "dictatorship" of President Daniel Ortega and First Lady Rosario Murillo on Sunday. 

  The protests started in the northern part of the city and attracted a crowd of protesters and riot police. The protest proceeded peacefully, with no violent conflict between police and protesters. 

  The protesters marched more than 10 kilometers during the parade, pronouncing their goal as "Rescuing the Homeland", aiming at demanding government to release more than 300 "political prisoners", and protesting against the domination of Ortega and his wife. 

  Flags of Nicaragua, as well as T-shirts and balloons with the colors of flag, blue and white, were conspicuous among the parade. 

  "Freedom for political prisoners!", "Justice!", "Let them go!", "Freedom for Nicaragua!" and "They're leaving, they're leaving!" were some of the slogans shouted by the protesters.  

  The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights accused the Nicaraguan government of "causing more than 300 deaths, extra-judicial executions, acts of torture, inadequate medical care, arbitrary arrests, kidnappings and sexual violence". 

  The humanitarian organization said about 322 to 481 people have died in the previous protests against Ortega, while the official figure is only 198.

  However, Ortega declared himself as the victim of an attempted coup d'état, and denied the accusations. 

  The protests against Ortega, and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo, began on April 18. Failed social security reforms were believed one of the major factors that led to massive protests. Protesters also accused the president of power abuse and rampant corruption, demanding his resignation after 11 years in power.
